Walcott Cemetery was established in 1892. It’s a large cemetery of 4.7 acres and over 660 grave sites. The cemetery is in three sections: north, middle, and south, with the south side being the oldest. In 2021, a committee was formed to restore and renew nearly 300 gravestones and grounds that had fallen into disrepair. Along with refurbishing gravestones and renewing cemetery grounds, the seed for building a Veterans Memorial was planted.
The Hagen-Helgeson American Legion Honor Guard of Walcott performs services at seven area cemeteries every Memorial Day. It was envisioned that a Veterans Memorial would be built to honor the military veterans who were buried in these seven cemeteries. Since that time, an invitation to three other area cemeteries was extended in the mission to "Let No Veteran Be Forgotten."
On Memorial Day each year, the Hagen/Helgeson Legion Post #166 holds services in the cemetery in honor of our servicemen. There is a 3-gun salute and a short prayer by the post chaplain or by the pastor.
